Central Line

Procedure in detail:

A time out was preformed as per protocol. Site of insertion was assessed with no signs of infection. All elements of maximal sterile barrier technique followed including cap, mask, sterile gown, sterile gloves, a large sterile sheet, a sterile US probe sheath, hand hygiene and antiseptic prep.

The patient's [] was prepped and draped in sterile fashion with a full length drape. The patient's [] vein was accessed under ultrasound guidance with an 18 gauge thin wall needle. The needle tip was visualized in the lumen of the vein on US. A [] was inserted via the seldinger technique. Blood was withdrawn from all lumens and flushed with normal saline. The catheter was sutured in place and a sterile dressing was applied.

The patient tolerated the procedure well.

Chest x ray is ordered.
